CB blocks are calculation-heavy, nothing short of "get a better computer" will help with that. So in the end, there's just not much you can do about it. But I'd say the previous iterations of the mod were less lag-inducing. This may be due to it not being yet fully optimized, I don't know. And finally, sadly, the current 1.16.4 version of CnB seems to be a bit less optimized than previous generations. The more calculations per block MC has to do, the laggier your game gets. A single block contains 4096 CnB bits, which means that theoretically, you could have that many different blocktypes combined into a single block. A CnB block could combine all those, so you'd have a light emitting liquid, that causes fire to occur and generates smoke while being a 3/4th of a full block. A regular block has a few NBT tags (Is it light emitting? fire inducing? generates particles? an air block?, etc) and that's it. That is because CnB blocks tend to be way more complex than a basic block from minecraft.
